quand le soleil : fabric design first for me

quand le soleil > inspired by my maternal Grandfather > always there > always an inspiration

Well here it is! My first attempt at a repeat. I’ve sent it off to Spoonflower to see how it looks on fabric. Fingers crossed it all lines up.

If I love it, I will offer it up for sale on Spoonflower.

Wish me luck!

ceramics, everyday inspiration, line art

line art and ceramics

This is part of a set of dishes I managed to wrangle out of my Mum’s cupboard. It’s a set that I remember throughout my youth. I believe it comes from my grandmother (French Quebec-side of my family) and I treasure them now.

I love the simple graphic style as well as the line art used to embellish the circles and squares. It’s another example of design that doesn’t need to be fussy to be beautiful. Banking this one as another source of everyday inspiration.

Colors I Love, everyday inspiration, stuff from my life

inspiration is everywhere

flower plateA few years ago now, my long-time boyfriend and I stopped on the side of the road to take a look at one of those random yard sales. This is the only thing I purchased that day. It’s a beautiful graphic example of what I love best. Bold and simple flowers with the colours I am drawn to always – yellow, orange and green. What can I say, I am a child of the 70s and this is my aesthetic. I love to have my breakfast (only) in this plate and before it’s deteriorates further, I wanted to take a picture of it to remind myself that even everyday things can be a source of inspiration.

doorways to the future

I’ve been seeing this door on my way to work in Montreal and fell in love with it. I managed to take a snap while standing on the bus with my camera phone.  I find that the glare, courtesy of the bus window, adds a layer of interest and non-perfection.

The thing that strikes me about this door is the bold choice of graphic and colours used. It totally says the people who live here don’t subscribe to the regular ideal of design. I secretly want to meet them. Maybe I have or maybe I will.
